Plan Zheroes for 2024 Community Initiative – June 17th

Featured UK | Prager Metis | Jul 02, 2024

The UK London office has selected Plan Zheroes as their charity partner for 2024, focusing on local food redistribution efforts. This organization collects surplus food from London markets and redirects it to nearby charities, reducing waste and supporting those in need.
Throughout the year, the UK team will engage in various activities to support Plan Zheroes. These include internal fundraising campaigns and hands-on volunteering at local markets, where team members will collect, package, and help deliver surplus food.

Recently, our team participated in a Surplus Food Collection session, working alongside experienced Plan Zheroes volunteers. The team collected excess food from vendors, preventing waste and channeling it to organizations like the Oasis foodbank near Waterloo. Tasks included weighing and packaging donations, providing team members with firsthand experience in the redistribution process.

A key highlight of the session was the opportunity to interact with representatives from local charities. These conversations offered valuable insights into the distribution process and underscored the significant impact of food donations on community members facing hardship.
The experience proved both educational and rewarding for the UK London office team, reinforcing the importance of food waste reduction and community support initiatives. As the partnership progresses, the office aims to raise substantial funds over the next few months while continuing to participate in volunteer activities, promising a meaningful and enriching experience for all involved.
