Prager Metis CPAs, an independent, full-service public accounting and consulting firm with offices in the U.S. and London and an affiliate of Prager Metis International, LLC, announced that partner Barry Pulchin will be honored as the 2014 Alumni Partner of the Year by Queensborough Community College. Mr. Pulchin, a 1966 graduate of the school, will be presented with the award at the annual Partners for Progress fundraising gala, to be held on Thursday, April 24, at Terrace on the Park in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in Queens.
An estimated 500 guests will attend the event, which is hosted by the board of directors of the Queensborough Community College Fund. The evening will begin with a cocktail reception at 6:00 p.m., to be followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m. and the awards ceremony. Featured guests will include QCC President Dr. Diane B. Call, QCC Fund Chair Mark Kupferberg and other award recipients.
The annual Partners for Progress Gala celebrates the school’s relationships with its business, civic and philanthropic partners and raises funds for student scholarships, the Kupferberg Holocaust Resource Center and Archives, the QCC Art Gallery, and the Queensborough Performing Arts Center (QPAC).
Mr. Pulchin graduated from the school in 1966 with an Associate Degree in Applied Science. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Public Accounting from Baruch College in New York City. Professionally, Mr. Pulchin is a Partner and Director of Forensic Accounting and Valuation Services at Prager Metis CPAs, LLC.
Through the years, Mr. Pulchin has remained involved with Queensborough. He has guest lectured on forensic accounting and business valuation at the school and is a member of the Alumni Association Cabinet, which connects alumni to students and fosters further alumni involvement with the college.
“The professors at Queensborough took the time to show an interest in me,” says Pulchin. “The combination of rigorous study and the camaraderie of students, faculty, and staff made for a solid college community. And it has likewise been rewarding for me to stay involved with the school. For example, I’m proud that, for the past seven years, the QCC Mock Trial Team, mentored by faculty advisors and coaches, continues to thrive and is often the only community college team to participate in the highly competitive American Mock Trial Association tournaments.”
Mr. Pulchin holds several professional designations including Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV), Certified Financial Forensics (CFF), Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA), and Diplomate of the American Board of Forensic Accountants (DABFA). He is a member of the American Institute of Certification Public Accountants, American Arbitration Association, and the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts.
Mr. Pulchin has been the featured guest on several radio programs to discuss year-end tax planning and general business valuation topics, has hosted The Barry Pulchin Show About Business…and You on WALE 990 in Rhode Island, and has been quoted in major news publications on the tax ramifications of cooperative tax ownership.
“One of the many ways Queensborough inspires its students to excel is by forging strong connections with the scores of alumni who have gone on to achieve their professional goals,” says Pulchin.”I am proof that going to a community college can be a great start to a very successful and enriching career as a business person.”
